EDITORIAL

DEAR READERS,

#vuca – that tells you everything you need to know to describe the current situation of an economic player. Vuca stands for volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguity. Socially, we can only counteract this by “vaccinating, vaccinating, vaccinating”. In this way, we get “some” normality back – both economically and privately. But the virus has not disappeared. The hygiene rules and many special measures will be with us for a long time.

We support these given framework conditions one hundred percent and look ahead. We share the view of the logistics experts that the volumes for growth are there. The experts are forecasting nominal growth of 3.7 per cent after a prediction of minus 5.1 per cent last year. That’s good news!

#pdkp is the name of our formula that is currently making us strong. The acronym stands for “Partnerschaft, Digitalisierung und kürzere Planungszeiträume” . Together with customers and partners, we are rethinking processes and creating transport solutions adapted to the situation. For example, we have started a door-to-door service on the Silk Road with DB Cargo for containerised steel transports from Duisburg. In Lauterbourg on the Upper Rhine, we will be opening a trimodal terminal with French players these days.

Together with our customers and partners, we are driving digitalisation forward and creating more and more interfaces to better connect us. The use of automation is one of the keys to high-quality cooperation, especially in an era characterised by lockdowns and contact bans.

Global supply chains are becoming more vulnerable – this is shown not only by the Corona pandemic, but also by incidents such as the average of Ever Given in the Suez Canal or the chip shortage. We are adapting to this with a shorter planning horizon. In the meantime, we regularly adjust our transport options to the current circumstances in consultation with our customers.

In summary, with #pdkp we have found our answer to #vuka in order to be able to offer you professional and stable services even in these times.

Stay healthy.

Yours, Heiko Brückner
