As one of the largest employers’ associations in North Rhine-Westphalia, the “Unternehmerverband” has honoured Haeger & Schmidt Logistics (HSL) for its commitment in this area as part of its “AusgezeichnetAusbilden!“
During the Corona pandemic, HSL offered its trainees internal training. A school teacher came to the company especially for this purpose. Contact was made with potential trainees via digital trade fairs and events. Good news: “We did not have to reduce the number of our apprenticeships,” reports Johanna Freiwald, responsible for Human Resources at HSL.
The company employs a total of 26 trainees, including seven commercial and nineteen industrial trainees. The latter are trained as inland waterway skippers or port logistics specialists. “Trainees also learn a lot by looking over the shoulders of other employees. The home office arrangements have made this a great challenge,” says HSL CFO Per Nyström.
The HSL training team is all the more relieved that more presence is now possible again. For example, our latest office in Hamburg has just hosted its first trainee for three months. In addition to the technical training in day-to-day business and dealing with customer visits, the prospective forwarding and logistics services clerk has also experienced the Port of Hamburg through the eyes of a trucker. During a truck tour, he experienced live container pick-up at the Altenwerder terminal, its securing on the chassis and the visual inspection of an empty refrigerated container.
With its excellent commitment to training, HSL joins a phalanx of numerous companies in NRW: “Many of our members have pulled out all the stops during the crisis to ensure that current trainees do not fall by the wayside and to continue to inspire young people to take up training in their companies in the future,” praises Wolfgang Schmitz. “AusgezeichnetAusbilden!” is a campaign within the framework of the training campaign #NRWirtschaftBildetAus by unternehmer nrw.
