Tata Steel’s Ijmuiden plant in the Netherlands has been using the new Haeger & Schmidt Logistics (HSL) steel logistics hub since the early months of 2022. The bespoke service has now culminated in a three-year contract that is aimed at establishing a long-term partnership. “Tata Steel is planning to set in place a flexible and sustainable logistics network to provide its customers with best-in-class service. HSL operates a trimodal terminal in Duisburg, Germany, that is perfectly suited to distribution based on the hub-and-spoke principle. Since February 2022, HSL has offered us an outstanding service hallmarked by flexibility and a relationship based on partnership,” reports Daan Sabbé who is in charge of maintaining the relationship between Tata Steel and HSL.

The steel coils are shipped by barge from the Netherlands to the steel hub in Duisburg where they are unloaded with proper weather-proof handling and stored in the temperature-controlled building. From there, the units are transported by rail or truck to their destination. Tata Steel ranks as one of Europe’s leading steel producers with steel plants in the Netherlands and the UK, along with other production sites across the whole of Europe. “We are very grateful for the trust that Tata Steel in the Netherlands has placed in our innovative logistics hub right from the very start, and we are delighted about the logical step taken to rely on us as a long-term partner for sustainable logistics,” explains HSL CEO Heiko Brückner.
