Haeger & Schmidt Logistics (HSL) is now offering an online calculation tool for intermodal transportation. This enables quick and uncomplicated price inquiries for container transports by rail or inland waterway around the clock.
“Many of our business customers need a price at short notice for a rough calculation. We want to serve this market with the calculation tool,” says Felix Zocher, General Manager of HSL’s Intermodal division. The new service is aimed at customers with ad hoc inquiries. According to Zocher’s estimates, this segment has a market share of around 15 percent of the intermodal business. “This customer group usually has smaller quantities to plan and only has a short time window to do so. They no longer have the capacity to obtain individual transport offers,” says Zocher, summarizing the feedback from the market.
HSL’s solution works very simply. After a secure login with personalized login data, you can get started straight away. Only a few details are required in the input mask: these include the destination, the container size, the time of loading, the desired mode of transport rail or inland waterway vessel and the seaport of entry Rotterdam or Antwerp.
The best routing with the shortest proportion of road kilometers is calculated by default. The online offer includes the price at a glance, a visualization of the transhipment points including the truck kilometers driven and a summary of the transport details.
Zocher gives an outlook: “With the online calculation, we have laid the foundation for further digital services. Further functionalities – also supported by AI – will follow. A comprehensive customer portal will gradually be created, in which everything to do with transport processing will be available.”
