The future begins anew with every generation

Every generation ticks differently. The new “mindset” at Haeger & Schmidt Logistics (HSL) is embodied by the Future Team, which is made up of management trainees for two years. This is the third time that young talents have successfully participated in this program. Due to the coronavirus, the duration of the program was extended once by one year.

The Future Team demonstrates the potential and innovative strength of HSL’s young workforce. The mid-20 to mid-30-year-olds represented there combine sport with sustainability, launch the company-wide residual cents salary scheme and create a new awareness of mental health in the hybrid working world. These are just some of the initiatives initiated and established by the outgoing Future Team. Oliver Riede, Fabian Bartels, Ilker Demirtas, Fabien Schumacher, Philipp Feige, Matthias Groß, Johanna Winken, Torben Radtke and Charlotte Paulerberg were all involved in this committee.

“The work that the current Future Team has done reflects exactly what we at HSL understand by the further development of young managers,” praises HSL Managing Director Heiko Brückner. For him, the aim is to incorporate fresh ideas and unconventional approaches into the company’s development through targeted exchanges with the young specialists. To this end, the participants evaluate the best ideas and suggestions together with the management.

Various initiatives launched by the Future Team, which was active from 2021 to 2024, are now an integral part of HSL’s corporate culture. These include, among others

HSL Goes Green: HSL employees have already planted 2,300 trees as part of the reforestation commitment launched in 2021.  The planting campaign is linked to a company health management (BGM) measure in which the sporting achievements of participating employees are rewarded with new trees.

Feel Good: This program focuses on mental health, which has a positive impact on the working environment. With apps, guides and podcasts, “Feel Good” helps to master the balancing act between home office, office and the virtual and physical working world.

One of the participants in the current Future Team is Torben Radtke. On behalf of the group, he says: “Being involved in the young talent committee has given us the opportunity to introduce and move topics and projects of our generation outside of day-to-day operations, to develop personally and professionally and to explore new areas of expertise.” Like the other alumni of the Futures team, he will also be involved in projects at company level in future. For example, Radtke will be involved in the digitalization competence cluster.

Radtke encourages the new Future Team, which is expected to start work this fall: “It pays to have the courage to bring your own ideas to the management level. This is the only way to focus on what moves the next generation.” Brückner reveals that planning for the new team has already begun. It is important to him to continuously fill this circle with young talent. “By continuing consistently, the next generation can build on the successes of the previous Future Teams and continue our vision,” Brückner is convinced.
