OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE GROUP

Divisions on camera

The logistics specialists from the various HSL divisions take stock of the new steel logistics hub from their different standpoints. They report on their own individual take on the new services and opportunities generated by the new steel hub.

The building of the new hall has enabled us to considerably ramp up our transshipment and storage capacities on the Stahlinsel in Duisburg. For the Inland Navigation Division, this has had a positive effect as the volume which we can transport to and away from our terminal has increased notably. As inland navigation, we make an important contribution here to ensuring a reliable and stable supply chain for our customers.
Ralf Tietze, General Manager Inland Navigation

The new trimodal steel hub highlights HSL’s forward-looking strategy and offers potential for improving the customer’s logistics value chain. Above all, the new heated warehouse offers options for stuffing and stripping containers, also with sensitive merchandise, and therefore expands our product range. The geographical proximity to the Hutchison Ports Duisburg container terminal, in conjunction with our line services to Antwerp and Rotterdam, allow us to reduce cost-intensive transport by road and to optimise our own carbon footprint.
Felix Zocher, General Manager Sales Intermodal

Given the situation in the market, the demand for storage has been very high in the last twelve months and we know for sure that our new steel logistics hall was opened at the right time. In mapping the full logistics chain, from the seaport via our terminal in Duisburg through to the hinterland and vice versa – interim storage in our steel hub with last mile truck transport has become hugely important. Consequently, we are experiencing a sharp increase in precarriage and on-carriage via truck and also in our reinforced role as an interface between our steel terminal and the customers and final recipients.
Jörg Thielen, Sales & Business Development Steel Logistics

The demand in the Benelux region for our new services is tangible. We can offer a wider range and depth of services across the logistics supply chain between seaports and the hinterland, including all value-added services such as customs clearance, seaworthy packaging, stripping and storage, either conventional or in containers. This all-in-one approach resonates very well with the market. Specifically, we are able to handle quite considerable volumes from various new customers via the steel hub in Duisburg and have received positive feedback across the board.
Muriel Marquet, Managing Director Haeger & Schmidt Logistics Belgium

With our river-sea fleet, we are frequently under way between River Rhine and Europe’s ports and Norway, as well as Great Britain. By using our new steel hub in Duisburg, the preconditions for covering the full logistics chain for high-grade steel coils based on our relations with the UK and Norway are even better in the future. For our customers, the possibility of handling a block train in a temperature-controlled hall and enabling the weatherproof temporary storage of goods, right through to vessel departure, confers a significant advantage.
Björn Zirotzki, Managing Director HSW Logistics
